Origin Energy: New connections
Customers can schedule their move with Origin up to one business day in advance by arranging it online before 1pm the previous business day.
If you want to switch providers at your current address or get connected at a new address, you’ll need to inform Origin Energy about your new property. You should include:
- Your desired connection date
- Whether there is free and clear access to your meter
- Any planned electrical works
- If anyone living on the property is on life support
If it’s solar plans you’re interested in, chat to the team at Compare Energy and see whether your property is eligible for Origin Solar before you move.
Origin Energy: Existing customers
If you're an existing Origin Energy customer and planning to move, you can easily transfer your current service to your new home through your Origin Energy account online.
It's advisable to arrange your move well in advance to avoid any last-minute issues. However, same-day connections may be possible.
For standard connections, Origin Energy can arrange electricity connections for the next business day if you notify them by 1 PM, Monday to Friday. Gas connections, on the other hand, may take up to three business days.
Origin Energy: Connection and disconnection fees
Origin Energy connection and disconnection fees vary based on several factors.
The type of service you have (electricity, gas, or LPG), your location, whether you have a smart meter, and your energy distributor all influence the fees you'll incur when moving.
It's essential to note that Origin Energy doesn't determine these fees; they are established by your energy distributor, and Origin simply passes these costs on to you.
At the time of writing, the connection and disconnection fees are up to date and current:

What is the Origin Energy Move Promise?
The Origin Energy Move Promise ensures your energy service will be up and running in your new home by the next business day if you schedule your move online before 1pm on a weekday.
If Origin Energy fails to connect your power as promised, you can receive credits up to $400 per day until your energy is activated.
Do you have to be there during the connection?
Typically, you don't need to be present at your property for an Origin Energy connection, unless you're in Queensland.
Origin Energy will inform you if your presence is necessary and keep you updated on the connection status.
In Queensland, a Visual Safety Inspection is usually needed unless your home already has power. When scheduling your move, you'll need to select a five-hour window for this inspection.
